Journal - 3 for January 25 to January 29, 2010

On Tuesday, we viewed the PowerPoint games of other groups in the class. All of them were interesting in how they related to certain content areas. Making games on PowerPoint can be a little rough at first, but it is rather simple to catch on to doing. We also reviewed our previous template project for Livetext. As a explained in the last journal entry. When including standards on Livetext, the website will do most of the work for you. So, I finished placing all of my standards on the template. Then, I began creating my introduction. It should be an interesting project to complete. We started making our WebQuests on a different wiki space website. In my future social studies classroom, PowerPoint games will work from for review sessions before a test. The PowerPoint games will be fun and entertaining for my students to hopefully help them retain information for the test and beyond.

On Thursday, two students from the class did a presentation over chapter three of the textbook. They did a good job. The chapter discussed different Web 2.0 tools and ways of using them in the classroom. I had an idea of most of the tools, but it was interesting to see how they could be adapted for use in the classroom. We took a short quiz after the presentation. In my future social studies classroom, I would use Web 2.0 tools to help keep connected with students and their families. I would like to maintain an educational blog to let families know what the students are learning in the classroom. I would also like to use a wiki space to relate additional information to my students concerning the lessons I am teaching. YouTube will be useful to show students events related to historical events. Sadly, the instructor was ill, so this is all we were able to accomplish on Thursday.

Standards met this week:

  • Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
  • Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
  • Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
