In Tuesday's class, we learned some cool features our gmail accounts gave up access to use. The feature highlighted was Google documents. Google documents allows individuals to create many things, including spreadsheets and surveys. The spreadsheets are great for keeping track of data, using formulas to find various results, and generating graphs. The surveys can be created and shared with others to answer online. The results are easy to view and organize. In the future, Google documents can be very useful for helping students track trends during projects. In the Social Studies content area, students can use Google documents for historical comparisons between now and previous eras. I can also use the survey feature to allow my students to evaluate my lessons.
In Thursday's class, a classmate (Kevin) and I taught a lesson on chapter two of the textbook. The chapter discussed recent trends concerning students' use of technology. It basically stated that students are using technology often, but teachers are not tapping into this technology to help students learn. The chapter then discussed ways of incorporating technology into lessons to enhance the learning experience for students. I think the lesson went well and the rest of the class gave good responses to our questions. In the future, I would like to use technology in my classroom to allow students to stay connected with me and each other outside of the classroom. In the Social Studies content area, I would like to use various videos and clips from the internet to enhance the understanding of historical events. Technology would also make it easy for me to pull up pictures and maps easily for the students to view. We also started working on our Livetext assignment. We had to place standards onto various pages of a template. I thought this was going to be difficult to complete, but it is actually easy to do. It just involves clicking the add button a few times and checking some boxes. Livetext will then place the standards on the page for you. This is a great example of how technology is helping students with the learning process.
These are the two videos we included in our lesson on Thursday. They show how technology is playing a role in the changing of the world.
